Privacy Policy
This explains what Qocial collects, why, and what we never do with it - especially your birth details, which power the astrology and compatibility features but are never sold or shown to anyone without your say-so.
1. Information we collect
We collect information in three ways: what you give us, what you create, and what your device tells us automatically.
- Account identity. A phone number (for OTP sign-in, India only today) or the name, email, and profile photo Google shares when you sign in with Google.
- Profile information you add. Handle, display name, bio, avatar, and any specialty you claim as an expert applicant.
- Birth details and gender. Date, time, and place of birth, and gender - required inputs for the astrology and compatibility layer. See section 3 for how these are handled specifically.
- Location. The country and state you choose for your feed. This is a region you select, not a live GPS trace - we never track your exact location.
- Content. Posts, replies, likes, follows, bookmarks, reports you file, and messages to support.
- Payment activity. That a payment happened, its amount and status. Your card, UPI, or bank details are collected and stored by Razorpay, our payment processor - Qocial never sees or stores them.
- Usage and device data. Standard technical data like IP-derived country, browser/device type, and request logs - used for security, abuse prevention, and keeping the service running, the same way any web service does.
2. How we use it
- To operate your account and show you a feed relevant to your region and who you follow;
- To compute astrology and compatibility results you specifically request;
- To process bounties, paid answers, subscriptions, and expert payouts;
- To verify expert applicants and keep the verified badge meaningful;
- To detect fraud, spam, and abuse, and to enforce our Terms and Guidelines;
- To respond when you contact support, and to meet legal and tax obligations (for example, retaining payment records).
4. How we share it
What you make public - your handle, display name, bio, avatar, verified badge, and posts - is visible to anyone, by design; that's the point of a public post. Beyond that, we share information only with:
- Razorpay, to process payments, subscriptions, and payouts;
- Google, only as needed to complete sign-in you initiate;
- Law enforcement or courts, when we're legally required to respond to a valid request;
- A successor, if Qocial is ever acquired or merged - this Privacy Policy would continue to apply to your data.
We do not sell personal data to data brokers or advertisers, and we do not run third-party ad-tracking on Qocial.
5. What we don't do
- We don't offer a way to look up or bulk-export accounts by internal ID - that endpoint doesn't exist, on purpose, because it would be a scraping and enumeration risk for every user's profile.
- We don't show your exact location to anyone, ever - only the region you chose to set.
- We don't sell or license your birth details, chart data, or compatibility results to anyone.
6. Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except records we're required to keep - payment and tax records, mainly - which we retain only as long as the law requires. Content you've posted that others have already engaged with (a reply thread, a compatibility comparison someone else ran with you) may persist in an anonymised or attributed-to-a-deleted-account form, the same way it would on any social platform.
7. Your rights and choices
- Access and correct. Most of your profile and settings are editable directly in the app.
- Delete. Delete your account from Settings, or ask us to at [email protected].
- Consent for compatibility. Whether your profile can be used in someone else's compatibility comparison is a separate, explicit toggle in Settings › Privacy - off by default is not assumed, but you can turn it off at any time.
- Block and report. Blocking a user hides you from each other everywhere on Qocial; reporting sends content to our moderation queue.
- Export. Request a copy of your data at the email above.
8. Children's privacy
Qocial is not directed at children and requires account holders to be 18 or older (see our Terms). We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has an account, contact us at [email protected] and we'll investigate and remove it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures - encrypted connections, access controls on our systems, and passwordless sign-in that removes an entire class of password-related risk - to protect your data. No online service can guarantee perfect security, but protecting your data is treated as a first-class requirement, not an afterthought.
10. Where your data lives
Qocial is built for India first, and your data is processed and stored on servers located in India. If that ever changes, we'll update this policy before it does.
11. Cookies and local storage
We use a small amount of first-party storage to keep you signed in, remember your theme preference, and - if you install Qocial as an app - let the offline page and static assets be cached on your device for when your connection drops. We don't run third-party advertising cookies or cross-site trackers.
12. Changes to this policy
We'll post a notice on Qocial before a material change to this policy takes effect. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
13. Contact and grievance officer
Privacy questions or requests: [email protected]. In accordance with applicable Indian law, our Grievance Officer can be reached at [email protected]; we aim to acknowledge complaints within 24 hours and resolve them within 15 days.
